Novell might have missed out on the contract to supply the Linux operating system for the City of Munich's high-profile desktop migration to Linux, but it has sold the German city on its Open Enterprise Server product.
So München will be using Debian Linux on their desktops, but Open Enterprise Server for their server park? Well, I think I'm very happy with this decision. A well integrated package in the back-office is much more important than one on the desktop. And for 16,000 desktops, it pays to build it yourself. I must confess, I'm not too fond of NLD myself and Debian is very easy to mass customize and tweak and deploy for 16,000 desktops.

Hail to Munich!
