Beryl
A large community-driven branch of Compiz (previously known as Compiz-QuinnStorm) includes a full featured set of plugins, patches, and applications. While this branch merges in upstream changes, it is beginning to split off more from Novell's project with complete replacements for configuration (csm) and window decoration (cgwd). Numerous changes to the CVS repository are typically committed on a daily basis to many of the Compiz-QuinnStorm projects, and is undergoing active development with rapid growth in the community. The two separate branches are usually referred to as "compiz-vanilla" and "compiz-quinnstorm" in several package managers.
On September 19, 2006, an announcement was made on the Compiz.net forums stating that the community maintained tree of Compiz (Compiz-QuinnStorm) would be moved into a project called 'Beryl' (a fork of Compiz).
