One of our freelance editors had serious issues using his USB drive in a Windows VM under SLED10.
Bruurs research pointed him to the following solution:
Add the following line to the fstab
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs default 0 0
Make sure the usbfs is mounted before vmware starts.
