Got the 3D working with some help of this article on SUSE 10.0 (X86_64)on the Ferrari 3200. (suse howto) (ATI Radeon Mobility 9700)
Also I tried gl-117, which I usually use to test 3D acceleration or as you can see in the screendump: glxgears
moosy@datacenter:~> fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: MOBILITY RADEON 9700 Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3.5461 (X4.3.0-8.19.10)
Bummer: found out later, that 3D was working out of the box with Suse 10. No need to do this crap. *&$@*&#$
