Nov 2004 - David Reveman started to work on XGL
Jan 2005 - Novell hired David Reveman. David was the only one working on a new Xserver based on OpenGL/Glitz.
During 2005, Matthias Hopf - working for suse (source)
Dec 2005 - The code was developed 'closed source' and a discussion started
Jan 2006 - Novell opens-up the XGL development and donates the XGL code (source)
Feb 2006 - Full opensource the code. The new windows manager, Compiz is released as well.
