packages for openSUSE are available on packman but I failed to get them up and running.
But he, it's still a 0.x release.

Media Centers

There are a few alternatives to MythTV that can be considered.

MythTV is the most feature-rich and advanced Media Center available for Linux today. It’s Live TV support is better than all. (opensuse packages) - more moose about mythtv

Elisa from Fluendo is a new and coming project. It’s being built from the ground up on top of GStreamer.

Linux MCE is another project that deliver Media Center features to Linux.

Freevo
It provides everything you need for a media center and at the same time is easy to maintain and to extend because its not one big monolithic app but rather a frontend for various applications. Because it is written in python its very easy to fix and extend. (opensuse packages)
GeeXboX project has joined the Freevo team to create a Live-CD based on Freevo.

Elisa goes Tango

My friend Hylke is working on a Tango theme for Elisa Media Center.

Here’s a little preview.

Elisa is currently going through a complete rewrite (version 0.3) which will be released this summer. Its main goal is to ease the development for contributors (and for the core team :)) as well as introducing some very nifty features such as the possibility of fully controlling Elisa from another device.

Elisa update

For those who missed it there is a nice review of Elisa over at linux.com. Especially if you are not very familiar with Elisa it gives a nice overview of the current situation. Also in regard to the much asked question about DVB and PVR support.

Elisa Media is a good idea

Elisa is a project to create an open source cross platform media center solution. Elisa runs on top of the GStreamer multimedia framework and takes full advantage of harware acceleration provided by modern graphic cards by using OpenGL APIs.

The core Elisa system is licensed under the GPL version 2. The GPL part of Elisa is also available under a commercial licensing agreement from Fluendo.

This is a good thing because it makes commercial Linux based media centers realistic.

Elisa Media Center

Elisa is a project to create an open source cross platform media center
solution. While our primary development and deployment platform is
GNU/Linux and Unix operating systems we also currently support Microsoft
Windows and also hope to support MacOSX in the future.

Elisa runs on top of the GStreamer multimedia framework. In addition to
personal video recorder functionality (PVR) and Music Jukebox support, Elisa
will also interoperate with devices following the DLNA standard like Intel's
ViiV systems.
